But, I love it.
And I’m always on the lookout for new talent to discover.
Well, maybe that should be “new” talent to “discover”. Christopher Columbus
didn’t really discover America, the people who were living here had already
done that, Columbus just had good connections (and regardless, 500+ years
later, it’s kind of too late to revise). So, it was my great fortune to “discover”
the awesomeness that is singer Kylie Edmond a couple years ago. She joined us
through a charity we were raising money for and we fast became friends. It
helps that not only is Kylie incredibly talented, but she’s funny, warm,
gorgeous and has a kind heart. So kind in fact that Kylie and her husband
Sean-Patrick founded a unique non-profit last year- Rock & Rawhide. Kylie, a
pet lover, had the good sense to realize that a happy dog or kitty is a more
adoptable dog or kitty and what makes dogs or cats happier than having a new
chew toy or a fresh blanket? So, Rock & Rawhide works with pet stores (like
Petco) and dozens of singers around the city to collect toys which go directly
to area shelters. It’s an incredibly kind and loving thing that Rock &
Rawhide does and I support them every chance I get.
Plus, Kylie is a great singer in her own right – her cover of “Pokerface” is, I think slightly better than Gaga’s original (but I’ll admit I might be slightly biased). Kylie and I did a duet at a Christmas show last year and I’m hoping to re-explore my performing side again in 2013 and beyond.
Anyway, today’s Performer Profile is the magically awesome Kylie Edmond, seen here in this photo with one of her two companions, Snickers.
City You Live In: NYC
What Stripe of Artist Are You? singer, songwriter
How To Contact You: www.reverberation.com/kylieedmond
Current Project: For my non-profit Rock & Rawhide I'm looking for artists, singers, performers to jump on board with us to benefit shelter animals.
Short Bio: Aussie, dog-obsessed singer-songwriter whose biggest talent seems to be turning men gay. 3 ex-boyfriends can vouch for that. Kylie spends much of her time managing Rock & Rawhide, a non-profit she co-founded with her (straight…so far…) husband to help shelter animals. These days she performs when the fridge light goes on and books artists to perform at benefit shows. She writes songs about her Cocaine eating dog, leaving her phone at JFK, one night stands and those ex-boyfriends.
Fun Performing Thing You Did That Wasn’t A Traditional Singer/Songwriter Gig: I danced in Singapore for 6 months (no poles were involved, clothing stayed on) with a great troupe, it was one of the most fun experiences of my life. Highlights: getting my ass pinched by Jean-Claude Van Damme, falling from the top of a pyramid mid routine, figuring out our house was haunted & meeting Jimmy Ray (are you sting ray?).
Song you wish you had written: Obv Imagine – John Lennon. Additionally, Bust A Move – Young MC and Tainted Love – Ed Cobb (Soft Cell version is my fav)
Role in a Movie That You Will Be Perfect For When They Remake It: "So, I Married An Axe Murderer" or "A Night at The Roxbury" ….cause I already know the entire scripts.
Favorite Compliment a Producer Has Given You: Your song could be an Alanis song.
What’s On Your Resume Under “Special Skills”? Def not cooking.
What Are You Currently Doing Show-wise? I'm concentrating on developing the ROCK side of Rock & Rawhide. Stay tuned for a LOT of amazing gigs in 2013.
