Reading a friend's play today, as I reached the bottom of page 1, it occurred to me, this is how you know you're in the hands of a real playwright.
What a pleasure! To read a play that is so absolutely written for the stage by someone who intuitively feels all the elements that make theatre come alive: character, story, movement, light and, of course, humanity.
When you read a few pages of a play and can immediately see and feel the action, hear the laughter and feel the pain, then you know you're reading a play. Not a novel. Not a magazine article. And not a sit-com. But a play. An honest to goodness play. Written for the stage.
Boy, is this rare! What a joy!
