I'm on a lot of email lists for industry screenings here and there. And one just came in with the following disclaimer at the bottom in red and in ALL CAPS:
THERE WILL BE SECURITY AT THIS SCREENING
PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY CAMERAS, LAPTOPS OR RECORDING DEVICES, YOU MAY BE DENIED ENTRY!
YOU MAY HAVE TO CHECK YOUR CELL PHONE AT THE DOOR.
Makes you wonder, doesn't it? What has happened to us as a culture that we seem preturnaturally incapable of sitting through anything without somehow documenting it -- surreptitiously or otherwise. I've been on countless film sets on which unauthorized cell phones are not permitted to protect the talent from finding themselves suddenly uploaded into oblivion.
Where does this madness end? What is it about us that fuels our endless urge to upload? Are we getting to the point where we can't feel anything is real unless it's shared with the world?
