Going through my pile of Christmas mail at the office. I know, I know... it's a bit late this year. And there are -- oh, look, surprise! -- two more packages including Ethan Mordden's mildly amusing book, OPERA ANECDOTES.
I have nothing against this book. It's charming and kind of fun in the way an afternoon of Trivial Pursuit might be. But could someone please explain to me why it is that every time a friend or a friend of a friend or a supporter of our company searches Amazon for a suitable little gift, they all return to this book? It really is odd that people assume if you make your living making operas, that all you'd want to own is a book of funny anecdotes about opera. Do Astrophysicists pile up copies of Carl Sagan's best sellers? Seriously, folks, this is so weird! I think I have about 6 copies of this book. I'm just gonna start donating them to music schools, I guess. Unless one of you has a better idea.
Sorry, just had to share. Happy New Year!
