The first NYC-based Brevity Fest will be held this Sunday evening, January 30 as a benefit for the upcoming production of The Rubber Room, co-written by E.C. authors Gary Garrison and Roland Tec. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased through Smarttix. There's a link at the bottom of this post. Here's the current lineup that we've got confirmed:
Playwright and artist Katherine Burger is thrilled to be collaborating with Roland Tec on an original musical, Legends of Batvia. Her play Morphic Resonance will have a production in Berlin this summer.
Yvonne Delet is a playwright and screenwriter. Her screenplays BARRYOKE, KING OF KARAOKE and DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL were both Finalists two years in a row in the Find the Funny 2nd and 3rd Annual Comedy Screenplay Contest and are both being considered by several production companies.
Bruce Ward is a writer, actor and teacher, and is currently working on a memoir. His award-winning solo show, Fabulous Ride into the Unknown has toured throughout the country.
Donna Jean Fogel has been working for the last year and a half as an actor/musician (drums) with the amazing Bekka Lindstrom (guitars) and 3 other fabulous women on MoM: a Rock Concert Musical. A director as well, she most recently directed productions for the Company Actors at Stella Adler Studios.
Bekka Lindström is looking forward to what comes next for MoM: A Rock Concert Musical -- that she and the sublime Donna Jean Fogel have been working on with Richard Caliban and 3 other actor/musicians. A practicing visual artist as well, Bekka is the art director of The Dramatist magazine.
Gary Garrison is a playwright and author, as well as the Executive Director for Creative Affairs of the Dramatists Guild of America and the Artistic Director and Division Head of Playwriting for the Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing at the Tisch School of the Arts. He is also the former National Chair of Playwriting for the Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival, as well as the Artistic Director for the First Look Theatre Company and the recently formed Playwrights PlayGround. David Licata is a filmmaker and a writer. His films have screened at festivals around the world, including the Tribeca Film Festival and New Directors/New Films--a showcase presented by Lincoln Center and MoMA-- and his fiction has appeared online and in print, notably The Literary Review's "Machismo" issue.
Roland Tec is an award-winning playwright, composer and filmmaker. Most recent film credits include We Pedal Uphill: Stories from the States, 2001-2008 and Edward Zwick's Defiance, for which he served as co-producer. His 1999 film, All the Rage, is considered a hallmark of the queer indie film movement of the 1990s.
John Yearley won the Mickey Kaplan New American Play Prize for his play Leap, and the John Gassner Award for his play Ephemera. His plays A Low-Lying Fog and All In Little Pieces are published by Samuel French. His new play, Another Girl, will debut in a reading by Naked Angels in New York in October. Author of the forthcoming book Daddy's Not Tall Enough to Touch the Moon. Previous jobs include "script doctor" for New Line and phone operator for Barnes & Noble. Husband to Blair, father to Henry the Destroyer.
