Thought it might be fun (and informative!) to list some highlights from my busy week. See, I run a mid-size mid-country opera company... something some are calling an endangered species. Here's a snapshot of what this overworked and overcaffeinated working girl had in her calendar this week.
1. Met with costume designer for Marriage of Figaro to discuss a 20% budget cut
2. Fired a rehearsal pianist who just wasn't working out. She chewed gum during rehearsals, among other things. I know, I'm a bitch.
3. Chased down the agent of a diva who shall remain nameless for like the fortieth time only to be told that the conversation would have to be tabled until his client comes back from Sydney. What? They don't have phones or internet down under? And, by the way, this is for a production in 2012.
4. Accepted the resignation of a board member who realized that owning her own business, caring for her two small children without help from her divorced husband and visiting her parents in a nursing home 30 miles away were making it impossible for her to find 10 souls to commit to a table at our annual gala. Harrumph!
5. Took a yoga class for the first time in 3 months and I think I may have pulled something. Jury's still out on that one.
6. Did not attend a single rehearsal of anything because I am not directing anything this season because I do not have time to direct anything this season because I'm too busy making phone calls! (See item #3. And 4, too)
7. Remained awake while a bunch of us on staff revisited a new hire for the third time because one of the four of us decision-makers was suddenly having second thoughts about our pick.
8. Snuck out of a donor reception for 15 min. to skip 3 blocks in my heels to buy and consume 20 Chicken McNuggets because I was afraid to eat the hors d'oeuvres because I knew A) how much they each cost and B) how many we'd budgeted per person. Worse than my sneaking out to McDonald's is I don't honestly think a single person noticed I was gone!
