We usually have our board meetings once a month in the spacious and pristine conference room of the law offices of one of the attorneys on our board. But last weekend he had to be away on business so our board meeting was held at the home of our board president. A lovely man, he is. And his home is beautiful and his livingroom made for a cozy place for the 8 of us to gather. But really! About 10 min. in, he leans to his left on the couch and hikes his feet up (he was wearing socks but no shoes) and proceeds to conduct the rest of the meeting from a reclining position.
At one point I asked him to speak up, hoping that might give him the hint that his posture was making it hard for us to hear him... not to mention, take anything he said or the meeting itself very seriously. And I left the meeting fuming.
Am I wrong to expect the chairman of our board to sit up as he leads a board meeting? Am I just being too uptight, showing my Protestant roots? I don't know... it seems to me if you're leading a board that has as its mandate, among other things, the raising of milliions of bucks, the least you could do is sit up. And, possibly, keep your shoes on.
