So who's been watching the new greatest show on cable? NURSE JACKIE starring Edie Falco is the next best thing to dark chocolate truffles for this lady writer.
As I struggle working on my own original tv series (and other female predominant 'vehicles' since I am a female) I am grateful that SHOWTIME (the new HBO) has put together someone of her stature and talent, a wonderful show starring a wonderful actress, and a woman in the lead role.
Now I hate that that's still an issue today but as a female writer it's what I still look and hope for. NURSE JACKIE is a prime example of the type of writing I do and look for and really rarely although not as rarely search for on tv and the movies. Usually I see examples of the stuff I write in male dominated roles like Rescue Me and Breaking Bad, etc. NURSE JACKIE takes characters that started with SEX AND THE CITY to the next level.
HIP HIP HOORAY - there is a place for me and other women who want to 'get down and funky' and REALLY FRIGGIN' HONEST in their writing and for that NURSE JACKIE, SHOWTIME, and Edie Falco, I thank you.
